AMERICAN PET OWNERS
A quick question: in which country can you find pet cemeteries, pet hotels, pet dentists, not to mention surfing cats? The country in question is the USA. Being kind to animals is all very well but not too much!
Of course the US is the land of extremes, and one would expect a degree of eccentricity from its animal lovers. But when treating animals like humans becomes a daily occurrence, it may be time to start worrying about the mental health of the nations pet owners.
As always, its California that sets the standard of eccentricity. Californians dress their cats and dogs in specially designed bikinis and Harley Davidson leather jackets. They take pets to restaurants where the Canine Cuisine menu includes an ice-cream dessert called Chilly Paws. They feed them with vitamin pills, diet pills, and breath-freshening pills. They take them to astrologers and psychics.
At the Cat Hotel in Hollywood, owner Dr Scott Ivers says his aim is to make his furry guests so happy theyll never want to leave.
Still, is there no limit to how much consideration an animal gets?
