i think punctuation is pants im fed up with tutors nagging on about capital letters and full stops why should i bother to use commas when do I need a question mark or an exclamation mark and whats the point of brackets its all dead boring and stupid
when you are writing on word any punctuation or spacing errors are underlined with a green line spelling mistakes are underlined with a red line
when we write text we write in sentences sentences always start with a capital letter and finish with a full stop this helps you make sense of the text when you read it back if you write a really long rambling sentence with no punctuation and then try to read it back to yourself you find you need to stop and take a breath and you begin to forget what the beginning of the sentence was about in the first place
if you do have to write a long sentence you need to use a comma to show where you can pause and take a breath
if a sentence is asking a question you put a question mark on the end if you have used a question mark do you need a full stop as well the answer to that question is no a question mark acts as a full stop
if a sentence has some speech in it you use speech marks for example jo said load up your punctuation is pants file and fill in the punctuation that is missing okay said the step up class obediently yeah right
you can use two speech marks found on the 2 key or you can use one speech mark also known as an apostrophe and found on the @ key near enter but you should not mix both in the same text
every name always begins with a capital letter every sentence begins with a capital letter but you don?t need to have a capital letter at the beginning of every line
titles
these can be written in capital letter but usually text should be a mixture of capitals and lower case
exclamation marks are used when what you have written is surprising very interesting funny or really happy it can also show fear don?t shoot or pain ouch or anger dont use your mobile in the l.r.c
I. r. c. is an abbreviation for the !earning resource centre which is too much of a mouthful to say every time so we shorten it to the 3 initial you can write your name in a short form ie b bilboe e cank j lendon you can use any 3 names in the example
you use the full stop to show where the missing letters should be
brackets always come in pairs like speech marks brackets separate part of the sentence excuse me what are you babbling on about with a new idea
when you finish putting in the punctuation for this sentence there should be no green lines anywhere in this work good luck
